Marriage Licenses

Florida Marriage Licensing Facts:

You must have the license with you at the time of the wedding.
Out of state licenses are not legal. Nor is a license from Florida valid in any other state.  It is valid in International waters such as sunset cruises.

While marriage licensing is controlled by the state it is managed by the county.

Brides and grooms must apply in person together and provide both photo ID with birth date (Drivers License, Pass Port, Student ID etc.) and must provide Social Security numbers.  If either party have been previously married, dates of "end of marriage" must be provided.  Divorce filing date or death certificate filing date.  This applies to resident and non-residents

You may apply for a license in any county in Florida and the license is valid in any county within the state.
Only the bride can changer her name on the license.

For Florida residences only there is a 3 day statutory waiting period on all licenses, however waiting periods are waved and you can save on your license fee if you attend 3 days of premarital counseling .  (In mixed native weddings i.e. 1 Floridian and 1 out-of-towner, the 3 day waiting period applies unless the Floridian takes the class)
Your marriage license is only good for 60 days (2 months)
